Celebrating diversity in diving on women's dive day
Did you know that just 32% of all scuba divers are women? To inspire more women to try out diving, we’re joining PADI Women's Dive Day on Saturday 15 July 2023, as the industry comes together to encourage more diversity in diving. The hope is that we can open the door to the underwater world to divers of all genders, ages, races, backgrounds, and abilities.
At Bocas Dive Center, we’re proud to tip the scales in favor of women, as 55% of our team here are women! Here’s an insight into what inspired the amazing women we work with to get into diving. We hope to encourage your own adventures too! So let’s dive right in…

“I didn't grow up by the sea and diving was kind of a crazy thing to do for me. I ended up jumping into it 5 years ago and damn, what a beautiful world I jumped into. Underwater is my happy place and brings me peace. Every seahorse or ray or nudi... All encounters bring so much joy and always makes the day special. So basically, every day I get to spend some time underwater is a special day. ❤️ ”

“I always thought I’d panic if I went diving, but as soon as I was breathing underwater, I was in awe of the feeling of being in another world. I learned to dive here in Bocas six years ago, and during lockdown I would dream of diving. So I decided to come back to do my Rescue Course and Divemaster, and now I love taking other divers on underwater adventures at BDC.”

‘I learned to dive a year ago and fell instantly in love. Since then, I have dedicated much of my time to exploring the underwater world. I am forever grateful that I get to work in majority female dive spaces at BDC and the University of Edinburgh Dive Club in which I am president of, where empowering divers brings such joy. I feel so privileged to be part of this community of women who push the boundaries above and below the waves!’
