Sadly it seems like every dive is a clean up dive when you are a Scuba diver.

Bocas Dive Center is a 100% Project AWARE dive shop, one of only two in all of Panama. As part of our commitment, we have adopted our exclusive dive site - Mayday - and undertake a monthly Dive Against Debris. During this we urge certified divers to join us and help remove marine debris and then report data on the types and quantities of the trash collected to Project AWARE’s flagship citizen-science program.

We welcome all certified divers to join us in our Dive Against Debris. Our PADI professionals lead groups of certified divers. Each diver is provided with a mesh bag in which to gather the collected trash.

After the dive, we arrange all the debris that has been collected by the divers and record what we have found. We then send this data to Project AWARE. This non-profit organisation uses data from dives like these all over the world to track what trash is in our ocean and what impact it can be having on our marine life. They work closely with government organisations to help limit the trash making its way into the sea and help to protect the valuable reefs.

In return for the time and effort that our clean up divers donate, we offer FREE tanks and equipment hire to all divers. We also urge divers to donate to our local charitable cause. The local cause changes each month and has ranged from education materials for schools to food and drinking water during times of crisis on the islands.
